Community SMILE Project

Community SMILE Project

The Community Smile Project, led by World Health Outreach, is a prevention focused oral health initiative designed to improve access to early childhood oral health education and essential hygiene resources. One of its key initiatives is making oral health education fun and easy to understand through Dental Discovery Boxes!

What is the Dental Discovery Box?

A hands-on, family-friendly oral health education kit designed to be loaned out through libraries, literacy centres, and child care resource centres - trusted spaces where families already go to learn, connect, and access support.

Each box is custom for the location and may include tooth models, children’s books, interactive lessons and activities, dental themed wooden puzzles, and simple caregiver guides. No training required, everything is ready to use.

Why It Matters

  • Tooth decay (dental caries) is the most common chronic disease in children worldwide, with higher rates in rural and underserved communities.

  • Early education helps prevent pain, missed school, and costly treatment later in life.

  • Oral health is a key part of overall health, yet many families lack access to practical and engaging oral health education.

Community Impact

This initiative is made possible through community partnerships and local sponsorship.

Each Dental Discovery Box is designed to stay within the community, creating ongoing impact through repeated use.

Together, are making oral health education accessible and community-driven!
